Institute of Pomology (IOP)

Founded in March,1958 and located in Xingcheng City, (East Longitude 120044’, North Latitude 40037’), a small beautiful seaside city in western part of Liaoning Province, the Institute of Pomology (IOP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) is among the earliest national comprehensive research institutes dedicated to deciduous fruit crops sciences researches. The mission of IOP is to conduct basic and applied research targeting national and local strategic needs; provide technical service for farmers and undertake master and PhD students training for future researchers.

IOP is constituted with 6 departments and 6 national level research platforms.

Based on the needs of fruit research, its research area covers germplasm resources collection, new variety breeding, culture techniques, plant protection, post harvest techniques, fruit and nursery safety inspection, economy and information for major fruits in north China include apple, pear, grape, small fruit.

IOP now has 228 staff members, including 30 professors and associate professors . They have joined in a broad range of research programs at national, ministerial and provincial level and make outstanding contribution to the rural development and improvement of farmers’ livelihood and production.

Since its establishment, the IOP has undertaken more than 450 items of state and provincial level projects and gained 130 items of scientific achievements. Meanwhile, IOP is the host institute for the Scientific Committee of Fruit, Chinese Society of Horticultural Sciences.
